Sandra Gomez has a degree in Animal Husbandry from the La Salle University in Bogotá. She also completed a course at the International Training Center at Jersey Zoo UK in 2003, and is currently working on a Masters in Environmental Management.

Sandra is a university teacher at two institutions in Bogotá.

Sandra started working at Santacruz Zoo in 2000, as a Coordinator of the Education Department, and was promoted to Head of the Department in 2004. In her position, she brings environmental education programs to local schools in different communities close to the zoo. Programs include Water Conservation Sources, Biodiversity Conservation, Reforestation, and Teacher Training in environmental subjects. She is also involved with the Colombian Zoos and Aquariums Association (ACOPAZOA) engaged in educational activities for all Colombian Zoos.
