Tomas started his career as a Zoo Educator at Dvůr Králové Zoo 11 years ago, "believing that a zoo is an ideal place for ecological education." At that time he was the only full-time employee responsible for education and public relation. Since that time, the education department has grown to offer education programs to primary and secondary students. In 1996, two education programs, The Tropical Rainforest and the Savannah, were presented to secondary students. In 1998, education programs at the zoo were offered to both primary and secondary students, reaching about 35 schools a year. These interactive programs feature presentations by zoo staff and a hands-on experience in the zoo. Since 1998, 338 schools have participated in the program. The Zoo also has prepared educational worksheets which are available to the schools and are currently working on creating 6 more worksheets. |
