Carmen, who besides being an educator is also a veterinarian, is currently the Manager of the Education Department at Africam Safari in Mexico and has had the opportunity to work in zoos in three Latin American countries. As Latin American countries are biologically diverse countries, Carmen believes it is the responsibility of the zoos to develop educational programs to promote conservation of the wildlife and ecosystems. These programs should target not only zoo visitors but also the local communities, schools, NGO's and local and national authorities.

As regional representative, Carmen has committed herself to train, motivate and increase participation of the Latin American zoos in IZE and to promote partnerships with zoos from different parts of the world.
