Rachel is a trained Zoologist and is Community Conservation Manager for Zoos Victoria. Merging her conservation and education training, Rachel develops and implements community engagement programs that influence sustainable behaviour change. Rachel has led a team of educators who received "Best Practice" recognition in 2005 by the Victorian Association of Environmental Education, and has designed and tested an innovative approach to Education for Sustainability that has been awarded "Best Zoo Education Program," by the Australasian Regional Association for Zoo’s Parks and Aquaria (ARAZPA) in 2006 and 2007. Rachel is committed to evaluating the impact of in-situ Education for Sustainability programs both locally and internationally, and received a scholarship in 2006 to establish an in-situ conservation education program (Kusanganisa) within Zimbabwe. This program is facilitated by the Tikki Hywood Foundation of Zimbabwe and continues to enhance the capacity or 3 rural communities living alongside wildlife reserves. In 2008 Rachel received a scholarship from the Centre of Sustainability Leadership (CSL) enabling her to join a network of Future Sustainability Leaders who are working with leading thinkers and influencers to create the next generation of environmentally responsible leaders.
