19th International Zoo Educators' (IZE) Biennial Conference

October 19-23, 2008
Hosted by Zoos South Australia

The 19th International Zoo Educators' Conference, hosted by Zoos South Australia, was a success! 88 educators from around the world gathered in beautiful South Australia to share best practices in conservation education. View the participants list.

Many themes resonated from the conference, including focus on the Year of the Frog, changing climates, behavior change, in-situ education and evaluation. It was quite evident from the paper presentations, open-space sessions, and key-note speakers that these themes are relevant to all educators and that IZE members have great passion around these topics.

IZE was happy to welcome the IZE Grant recipients to the conference,
allowing these educators to gain a wealth of information and new connections which will further their education programs.

Many thanks to the all of the educators from Zoos South Australia for planning and hosting such an outstanding conference. Many worthwhile opportunities were created, including up close views of the Adelaide and Monarto Zoos. The social program was also interesting and included an evening at the Government House of South Australia and an elaborate closing gala dinner.

Hopefully all educators will use the information gained to further their own conservation education program and be able to influence the behaviors of zoo visitors around the world.
